The European defence technology market is still divided after twenty years

23. - 24. 4. 2024

When Eastern Europe, consisting mostly of former Warsaw Pact states, joined the European Union on May 1, 2004, their defence industry looked at this integration with hope. But even after 20 years, neither the West nor the East is completely clear about how the single market with weapons technology actually works, why the East is so slowly converging to the West, and why the West is not quite willing and ready to accept it. The national way of thinking about the arms industry and its connection to its own armed forces is one of the barriers to European military consolidation and building a common research, technological and production capacity for the defence of the European Union (EDTIP).

Experts from universities and defence industry companies from France, Belgium, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Lithuania debated the directions of research and the possibilities of solving this problem by proposing a common European policy at a seminar organized by the Prague Security Conference, reg. association, on 22-23 April 2024 under the auspices of AOBP and with the kind support of MBDA.

Sweden in NATO: A New Dimension of Ensuring Europe's Security

15.12.2022

Sweden's impending entry into the North Atlantic Alliance is one of the most significant immediate effects of Russia's war against Ukraine. Is this really a surprising geopolitical turning point? And what will this decision bring in terms of the European security and defense complex? Why is Sweden such a major military asset to the Alliance? What meaning should we attach to it from the Czech perspective? What exactly does Sweden's membership mean for the Czech Republic and the military cooperation between our two countries?

These and other questions were raised in the discussion that took place during the conference "Sweden in NATO: A New Dimension of Ensuring European Security", the general partner of which was SAAB Technologies

Interviews with Ambassador Fredrik Jörgensen, Lieutenant General Jaromír Zůna and Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Defense of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, MP Pavel Růžička on Sweden's entry into NATO.
